Designation of Environmental Beautification Promotion Priority Area and Smoking Prohibition Area
In Suita City, the dumping of empty cans and cigarette butts is prohibited under the Ordinance for Environmental Beautification. The areas that are particularly strict about dumping prevention and control of outdoor advertising materials and signs are designated as Environmental Beautification Promotion Priority Areas.
In these areas, those that particularly require the prevention of discarding cigarette butts are designated Smoking Prohibition Areas, smoking in a public place equipped with no ashtrays is prohibited. To date, the areas around Subway Esaka, JR Suita, and Hankyu Kita-Senri stations have been designated Environmental Beautification Promotion Priority Areas and Smoking Prohibition Areas.
●Complaints and consultations on pollution
There are seven types of pollution: air pollution, water contamination, offensive odors, noise, vibration, ground subsidence, and soil contamination. If you have a problem, contact the following:

●Photochemical smog
Photochemical smog is produced from pollutants such as nitrogen oxides from automotive emissions, factory smoke and soot through chemical reactions with sunlight. Photochemical smog information is broadcast via TV and radio. In addition, notifications are made using different colors of flags at public institutions, such as the City Hall, elementary schools, and junior high schools, according to the type of information.
| Information details | Color of flag |
|---|---|
| Prospect | Green |
| Warning | Yellow |
| Alarm | Orange |
| Critical emergency | Dark red |
●Pollution of rivers and the ocean
Domestic wastewater also causes pollution.
Remove moisture from cooking rubbish and garbage for disposal as combustible waste. It is also possible to compost and use them.
Use an adequate amount of soap.
Reuse fritter oil for cooking or have it absorbed by newspapers or rags for disposal as combustible waste. You can make environmentally friendly soap from used cooking oil.
●Daily life noise
For a quiet living environment
Although noise in the daily living environment is not controlled by laws and regulations, the noise of air conditioners and musical instruments may create a nuisance in the neighborhood, even if unintentional. Please be careful of such noise pollution.
●Emissions
To reduce emissions from automobiles
The ratio of air contaminants, such as nitrogen oxides from automobiles, is greater than that from factories.
・Please reduce the use of private cars by using trains and buses as much as possible for commuting and pleasure trips.
・Please avoid the use of private cars on No My-car Days, which fall on the 20th of every month.
・Please continue appropriate maintenance and inspection of automobiles and make efforts for ecological driving such as moderate acceleration.
・Please avoid the unnecessary idling of automobiles.
・When purchasing an automobile, please select a more environmentally friendly model.
●Prevention of global warming
Carbon dioxide emissions from the daily lives of residents, including those from gas and kerosene consumption, private cars, and power stations that generate electricity for households, constitute approximately 15% of the total amount of CO2 emissions in Japan. Such emissions are accelerating global warming. Please stop wasting electricity by making appropriate air temperature settings for heating and cooling and reduce energy consumption at home.
